An ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure

If we take a look at the recent leadership and quality lessons from BP and Toyota on Disaster recovery, we find the that, how true is the old adage: "An ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure".

The BP oil spill in particular is one of the greatest disasters ever happened on any ocean. I wouldn’t be surprised if this changes the way every oil company approaches safety and quality. Although this disaster did initiate a series of inventions in the field of oil spill management, which can be used for future!

Similarly, Toyota sticky pedal' case is an example of how a company which has been benchmarked by the whole automobile industry for its quality commitments can go wrong too.

For these two cases; ask even the masters of the industry to revise their lessons learnt in quality management classes. BP lost $100 bn in market cap and about $20 bn on cleaning up the mess, and God knows what will happen to its PR value! Similarly Toyota has recalled about 8.5 million of its vehicles after the quality faults were notices in its cars.
